Musical  theater at its best

Showtune  is a popular musical revue celebrating the words and music of Broadway giant Jerry Herman, The 40 songs featured in the show come from Herman musicals Milk and Honey, Hello, Dolly!, Mame, Dear World, Mack & Mabel, The Grand Tour, A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine and La Cage aux Folles. The songs are juxtaposed into thematic scenes and song cycles, placing a strong emphasis on Herman's lyrics and their optimism. The song-cycle format creates dramatic sub-texts giving through-lines to the show, making Showtune unique among musical revues.

All cast members require a wide emotional range. They deliver classic musical comedy contrasted with tender, heartbreaking moments. They perform ensemble numbers as well as solos. There is no book; the entire revue is sung through. There is no "fourth wall" between the cast and audience, yet the show is not presentational. Rather, it is conceived as friends sharing good times and heartfelt emotions.

CASTING REQUIREMENTS
All performers require legit voices, distinct character types, with comic flair. Must move well.

WOMAN 1: Leading woman type, 40s-50s, alto, low F# to high C# with a belt. Some soprano singing is involved.

MAN 1: Leading man type, 40s-50s, bass-baritone, low A to F.

WOMAN 2: 30s to 40s, alto soprano, low F# with a high belt to C#. Some soprano singing.

MAN 2: 30s-40s, bari-tenor, low G to G or A.

WOMAN 3: 20s-30s, soprano with belt, low G to high A. Tap dancing a plus.

MAN 3: 20s-30s, strong tenor, low Ab to high A.
